As the dig progressed, a lot of things changed. To try and speed up ingress and egress a cable ladder was obtained.
While the cavers were doing their end, Bryan Jameson and the Archeologists were busy enlarging the entrance into the burial pit.
With a little help from Wayne Peplinski, they managed to photo document the burial pit.
The bone pit is described by one Archeologist as a possible bundle burial site.
It goes down 20+ feet and only a small human can make the trip.
A blockage in the pit prevents rocks and debris from falling in on and damaging the artifacts.
Looking back up the pit. A safety line was rigged to assist in the descent.
As interesting as it all is, the cavers still have their pit. Here it is after being opened up.
Getting ready to remove a loose rock hanging over the edge of the pit.
A haul system is devised to pull buckets loaded with rock to the
surface from 30+ feet down.
Closer view of the haul system rigging. The buckets being hauled weigh about seventy pounds.
The pit cavers descend into to dig. The board is used by someone guiding the rope so buckets clear the walls.
